The genesis of the Peninsula Islamic Community Center, also known as PICC, can be traced to the early 2000s when a small group of Yorktown residents met to develop plans to establish a center from which to promote a nurturing educational environment, a family-friendly social environment, interfaith events with the community at large, social activism and volunteerism, and to conduct Islamic religious services. After considering several sites and structures, the current location was unanimously designated by a small group of founders. Following that decision the process of acquiring the land and formally establishing the Center with local, State, and Federal authorities got underway in July 2015 . A caretaker board of trustees and executive body was appointed in September 2015 and charged with drafting a founding Constitution based on Islamic principles with an emphasis on transparency, democracy, inclusion and community outreach.  PICC is a religious, not-for-profit organization incorporated at Yorktown on the Virginia Peninsula. 

PICC is located at 1217 Todds Lane, Hampton, Virginia. This property was purchased in September 2019. It has 8000 square foot building and more than 8 acres of land.

The purpose of PICC is to advance the cause of Islam and serve Muslims in Hampton Roads and Virginia. PICC aims to provide coordination of local Muslim affairs, foster a positive understanding of Islam in American society, establish strong ties with other religious organizations, promote a spirit of brotherhood, and sisterhood within the Islamic community. PICC will aspire to provide educational opportunities for local Muslims of all ages. 

PICC is open for daily prayers, Friday prayer, weekend Quranic and Arabic schools for both Muslim and non-Muslim children. PICC has daily iftar meals and taraweeh during the month of Ramadan. PICC is available for wedding and private parties,  picnic, gender specific aerobic exercises and other physical calisthenics, and community wide activities such as open houses, inter-faith dialogue and health clinics.
